Funding will expand and enhance Larta’s Community Labs programs, Heal.LA and Venture Fellows
Larta Institute (Larta) is honored to receive a two-year grant from The Eli and Edythe Broad Foundation to amplify its mission of advancing community-driven innovation. The funding will strengthen Larta’s Community Labs platform—notably, Heal.LA in health and wellness and the Venture Fellows program in weather and disaster adaptation.
With this support, Larta will expand its pool of Fellows—entrepreneurs and innovators with high-potential solutions—to benefit from Larta’s proven approach: targeted mentorship, mass-customized technical assistance, deep partner connections, and access to capital. These solutions will not only be accelerated but may also be piloted in real communities, where impact is most urgently needed.
The grant builds on Larta’s three decades of leadership as a hub for innovation and commercialization. Since its founding in Los Angeles in 1993, Larta has worked with over 6,000 entrepreneurs across the U.S. and globally, generating over $7B in follow-on funding. Yet it is in Los Angeles, one of the most diverse and complex regions in the world, that Larta has deepened its work to ensure the benefits of innovation reach underrepresented communities, small businesses, and local entrepreneurs.
As Larta’s Founder & CEO, Rohit Shukla, notes, “This grant from The Broad Foundation affirms our belief that innovation must be rooted in community. By connecting world-class ideas to local needs, we can create resilient, inclusive, and sustainable solutions for Los Angeles and beyond.”
“These initiatives give entrepreneurs the mentorship, tools, and resources they need to bring bold solutions to life,” The Broad Foundation Senior Program Officer Porsha Cropper said. “Supporting innovators who are working to improve the well-being of our communities is at the heart of our mission, and we’re excited to help fuel their impact.”
