Technical & Business Assistance (TABA) Program for SBIR Phase I and II Grant Awardees

Larta offers a comprehensive program of Technical & Business Assistance (TABA) for startups who have received a Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) grant from The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA).  

Program Overview

This program is dedicated to the successful commercialization of SBIR/STTR funded technologies and provides comprehensive commercialization assistance to all NASA SBIR and STTR Phase II awardees with Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) funds.

The Technical and Business Assistance (TABA) program is a way for small businesses to get funding over and above their SBIR/STTR contract to use for commercialization assistance services from a provider they identify. TABA allows an additional supplement to the award ($6,500 for Phase 1 awards and $50,000 for Phase 2 awards) and is aimed at improving the commercialization success of awardees.

All NASA SBIR/STTR Phase I and II grant awardees

Funding

Phase I – up to $6,500 paid by NASA
Phase II – up to $50,000 paid by NASA

Enrollment Deadlines

TABA funds to be requested with SBIR/STTR grant application. Awarded 6-9 months after SBIR/STTR proposal submission.

Duration

Phase I – 6-9 months alongside grant program
Phase II – 24 months alongside grant program

Commitment

1-2 hours per week depending on products selected

Phase I Awardees:
Commercialization Planning

Work with a dedicated market expert to create a ComPlanâ„¢ – the ‘Commercialization Plan’ is designed to outline how your early-stage invention will move from a research idea to a commercially-viable product in the marketplace.

A well-defined ‘Commercialization Plan’ is required to apply for a Phase II SBIR R&D grant.

Larta‘s ComPlan™ is a market-tested commercialization plan that demonstrates market and management competence, instills confidence, sets expectations and increases your chances of success. The ComPlan™ conveys that you as an entrepreneur/founder are in a position to pursue commercial applications of your R&D.

Larta’s subject matter expert (Principal Advisor) will work iteratively with the you to develop, test, and validate the ComPlan™, covering market opportunity, company and team, competition and IP, and finance and revenue model.

Needs Assessment with a Dedicated Expert/Lead PA

Collaborate with a dedicated Larta lead “Principal Advisor” to assess your startup’s current needs & status, and determine the most appropriate use of TABA funds for commercialization preparation.

Phase II Awardees:
Commercialization Preparation

Based on your startup’s near/long term goals and objectives, Larta helps your company develop and execute plans and activities critical to the commercialization of new science and technology.

Collaborate with a dedicated Larta lead “Principal Advisor” to assess your startup’s current needs & status, and determine the most appropriate use of TABA funds for commercialization preparation.

Technical & Business Assistance (TABA)

Based on your needs assessment, you will select one or several tools from Larta’s product portfolio – to help prepare your startup for commercialization and market entry. You get a team of experts to deliver the selected services.
