We are seeking to engage a professional with a background in the life sciences.
The ideal candidate is motivated to use their domain expertise and understanding of the marketplace to connect with and marshal Larta’s community of entrepreneurs, institutional partners, life sciences experts and community resources to maintain and grow our long-standing life sciences programs. This position will have both a national and a local, L.A.-centric profile.
Larta Institute is seeking a Senior Manager, Life Sciences to administer and manage our efforts in supporting startups in the Life Sciences nationally and in Los Angeles.
Nationally, Larta Institute is a key partner to NIH and other agency-funded startups through the SBIR program. For 17 years, we designed and managed the acclaimed NIH Commercialization Accelerator Program (NIH CAP), which became the model for similar assistance programs across multiple jurisdictions in the U.S. and overseas.
The Senior Manager, Life Sciences will be a key point of contact for Larta’s efforts in provdiing “commercialization assistance” primarily to SBIR/STTR grantees funded by agencies like NIH and NSF on a rolling basis (this federal program is referred to as “TABA” or Technical and Business Assistance), using key experts and resources we have recruited and deployed over a long period.
The individual would also manage our budding program, called Heal.LA, which Larta Institute launched in 2021. Heal.LA is a platform that aims to enhance and expand entrepreneurship in the human life sciences industry, with a special emphasis on undervalued entrepreneurs and underserved communities in the Los Angeles urban region. We bring together a well-connected, outcomes-oriented ecosystem of entrepreneurs, mentors and advisers, key stakeholders in business and industry, foundations, philanthropy and government, and investors committed to fostering positive impact of new by virtue of this work. Heal.LA aspires to help build a talented workforce for the growing needs of life sciences companies in this region.
Compensation & Benefits:
- This is an exempt, full-time position.
- Salary: $80,000–$85,000
- Annual bonus based on company performance.

Qualifications and Responsibilities:
The Senior Manager, Life Sciences at Larta Institute will have domain knowledge of the life sciences writ large, and knowledge of, experience with, and relationships in the life sciences in the Los Angeles region. This person will be an excellent relationship manager and will be tasked with supporting the creation and maintenance of alliances throughout the Los Angeles region to promote the elements of Heal.LA (including the Accelerator program and the entrepreneurs served by it.). . This role will involve collaboration with existing Heal.LA partners (e.g., Lundquist Institute, BioscienceLA, Biocom, Cedars Sinai, UCLA and USC) on programs of mutual interest.
The Senior Manager, Life Sciences will be an excellent communicator in public as well as private engagements to support the development of programs and revenue streams that enable the growth and sustainability of Heal.LA and Larta’s life sciences program.
The Senior Manager, Life Sciences will interact with existing and future donors/funders to fulfill grant requirements and to identify and pursue revenue streams that enable the growth and sustainability of Heal.LA and Larta’s life sciences program.
