Gliimpse™ began with a simple idea – everyone should be able to manage their health records, and share them securely with those they trust. The platform was acquired by Apple in 2016.

Apple announced in late January that its new iOS release would allow users to access their medical records through the Health app – one of the most notable and potentially disruptive events of the last five years in health IT. Twelve US health systems signed on for the initial release, including AVIA Network members Rush University Medical Center, Dignity Health, and Geisinger.

Apple’s ambitions in the health sector continue to expand, with its digital health team making its first known acquisition—personal health data startup Gliimpse, Fast Company has learned.

Apple confirmed this digital health company acquisition

Gliimpse began in 2013 hoping to make interoperability actually interoperable by aggregating health data into a single digital patient record. The Redwood City, CA-based startup have raised at least $1 million in seed funding, Silicon Valley Business Journal reported.
