    Capital-Raising

Capital-raising services are vital aspects of most Larta programs. Through customized consulting, targeted introductions, and investor forums, Larta Institute's programs help companies raise the money they need to grow and succeed. Since 1993, Larta has managed events that showcase companies to the investor and corporate communities.

Investor forums are frequently incorporated as the final element in the business training, mentoring, commercialization and development process. We prepare companies to make the best presentations possible, and then introduce them to the right investors for their technologies, products, and industry sectors.

We believe in smart money. We want companies to partner with investors who will do more than open their checkbooks. We want investors who will help guide companies, make introductions, and take an energetic role in the continuing success of the company, while respecting the rights and responsibilities of the company founders and executives.

We have the contacts to help companies succeed. We have worked with and gained the trust of hundreds of angel investors, venture capitalists, institutional financiers, and leading companies in a wide range of industries.

    Programs

    United States

National Institutes of Health Commercialization Assistance Program (NIH-CAP) is designed to help promising SBIR Phase-II life science companies bring their technologies to market. This NIH-funded nationwide program combines training workshops, individual mentoring and consulting sessions, and public events in which companies present their technologies to the investment community and potential strategic partners and licensees. In its first year, NIH-CAP mentored 114 NIH funded SBIR Phase II awardees.

    USDA Commercialization Assistance Program (USDA-CAP)

In support of its SBIR Phase II program, USDA aims to facilitate the transition of developed technologies, processes, and/or services into the commercial marketplace to further the economic goals of the USDA SBIR grantees and to provide solutions to some of the agricultural/rural problems USDA addresses. With this intention in mind, USDA has teamed with Larta Institute, a premier technology commercialization assistance organization, to develop and deliver a pilot program designed to assist USDA's SBIR Phase II awardees in the commercialization of their technologies, processes and/or services.

The program, called USDA-CAP, begins in January 2008 and will comprise of training seminars, individual mentoring/coaching sessions, exposure to potential partners/investors networks and the development of a brief commercialization plan/roadmap which participating companies may adopt at the conclusion of the program. This roadmap will be customized for each USDA-CAP participant and will include clear commercialization objectives for the company, and the steps it needs to take to achieve those objectives.

The USDA-CAP will be conducted over five months and is available at no cost, only to current USDA SBIR Phase II Awardees.

Advanced Technology Program Commercialization Assistance Program is funded by the Department of Commerce's National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) to assist Advanced Technology Program (ATP) awardees. The workshop and mentoring program provides participants a comprehensive roadmap to help move their technologies into the competitive marketplace. Mentors help prepare companies for their commercialization efforts and address issues facing innovators in the marketplace.

Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency Commercialization Assistance Program (DARPA CAP) is a pilot program designed to assist DARPA's SBIR Phase II awardees in the commercialization of their technologies. The program begins in May 2006 and will comprise of individual mentoring, coaching sessions, and a showcase event where SBIR awardees will present their technologies to the investment community, potential strategic partners and licensees. The program is available to current DARPA DSO SBIR Phase II Awardees.

    Testimonials

I thoroughly enjoyed the Venture Forum - it was excellent, with a high standard of presenting companies and a good range of attendees." - John Gibson, SVP, Pharmaceutical Development - Allergan

"I was very impressed with the quality and caliber of companies at Larta Institute's 12th Annual Venture Forum in San Jose in June 2006. It was, hands down, the best venture showcase I have been to, not only in terms of the quality of companies, but also in regards to the precision of logistics and support, expertise of the keynotes and other presentations as well networking opportunities." - David Bowser, VP, Johnson & Johnson Corporate Office of Science & Technology

"I want you to know that I could never have done this without LARTA and The Venture Forum! I was coached by professionals (who took the time to help unknowns like me, who have always had to struggle with the nuances of fundraising, corporate organization and finance) and position me to be recognized as a "realistic" potential investment opportunity". -Paul Harrison, Founder and Chairman, TherMark Holdings, Inc.

"The program gave me enough exposure to the business way of thinking and an understanding of what needs to be in a presentation so that I am now acting more like a CEO than a scientist."

"Although we were very comfortable with our technology and overall potential market, we had been struggling with how best to penetrate the market and what strategies would work best, what potential problems to avoid. Our advisor did an excellent job of guiding us just enough to point us in the right direction."

"We've been persuaded to out-license programs not central to our … strategy. This move will reduce our costs, increase our revenues, and sharpen our focus. As a result, our company is stronger."

"The program was very helpful in getting our company focused on presenting our technology more clearly and effectively."

"(The program) was instrumental in helping me focus and fine-tune my business case, as well as plan for strategic alliances.

"(The program) enabled us to detail how we could further push our science out into consumer…markets, and how we could raise money to make that happen."

    "Excellent coaching."

"During the Larta sessions, we got the chance to review the challenges facing us as well as opportunities for our growth."

"Due to (the Larta program), we have reorganized our thinking, and prepared our materials and presentations in a manner acceptable by the U.S. business community."

"The program has strengthened our belief and understanding of our ability to penetrate the U.S. market, as well as the importance of doing so. Without the program exposing us to the way business is done here, we could not have prepared our presentations adequately."

"During the Larta sessions, we got the chance to review the challenges facing us as well as opportunities for our growth. We understood more thoroughly what we need to do while approaching the potential strategic alliance and what we lack now in this effort. Larta mentors have helped us focus and define methods to meet our goals."
